This week I have read 70 pages in Ernest Hemingway’s novel “The Old Man and the Sea”. This book is full of sensory detail and descriptive wording to not only set the scene in the book, but to give an image in the reader’s mind. Throughout my years in high school, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a book as much as this one because I like everything about it from what I’ve read so far and this book gives excellent life lessons or themes. An example from the book is the old man needed the boy’s help to get the fish in when he was out fishing for the Marlin. An example of one of the themes from the book is how often the boy spends his time with the old man and he thinks the old man is another father figure in his life since he was five years old.

I completely agree with Kennedy.. This story uses a lot of sensory language and different themes of sorts. I particularly like the theme of how you can’t do everything on your own. That fish drug the old man out to sea so far and there was nothing he could do about it. He wasn’t strong enough on his own.

I agree the book does give the reader a good image of what the author is thinking. Hemingway does include lots of details and tells you how important the boy and the old man are to each other.
